How We Handle Your Information
We are a family business, not a data company. We collect the least we can, we use it to welcome you properly, and we do not sell it to anyone.
What this page says
If you book a visit we need your name, email, phone and the country you are travelling from. If you buy something at the house we record the sale. If you browse the site, Google Analytics counts the visit. That is essentially all of it — the rest of this page explains each part properly.
Who we are
Heritage Spice House LTD, a family-run cultural attraction at Teeluck Lane, Riambel, South Mauritius. When this policy says “we” or “us”, that is who we mean. You can reach us at spicehousemauritius@gmail.com or on +230 5750 2929.
What we collect when you book a visit
If you reserve a visit through this website we ask for your first and last name, your email address, your phone number, and the country you are travelling from. We also record the date and start time you chose and what you booked.
We ask for the country because it helps us understand which markets our guests come from. It is never used to treat anyone differently.
What we collect when you contact us
If you send us a message through the contact form, we receive your name, your email address and whatever you write to us. If you message us on WhatsApp we see your phone number and your message, as you would expect.
What we collect at the house
If you buy tickets or spices at the counter, our point-of-sale system records what was bought, when, and how it was paid for. If you ask for a receipt by email we record your email address to send it. If you pay in cash and do not want a receipt emailed, we hold nothing about you personally.
What is collected automatically
Like most websites, ours collects some information as you browse: your IP address, the pages you look at, roughly where in the world you are, and what browser and device you use. This comes through Google Analytics and is used to understand how people find and use the site.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Ours are used for three things: keeping your booking in the basket while you complete it, remembering your preferences, and Google Analytics measuring how the site is used.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The booking basket will not work properly without them, but everything else on the site will.
Who else sees your information
We do not sell your information to anyone, and we never will.
A small number of services handle it on our behalf. Hostinger hosts this website and our email. Google provides Analytics, the map on our contact page and the fonts the site uses, and delivers our emails. If you pay a cooking class deposit, PayPal handles that payment and we never see your card details.
We may also share information where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Booking and sales records are kept for as long as we need them for our accounts and for Mauritian tax requirements. Messages you send us are kept while we are helping you and for a reasonable period afterwards. A log of emails the website has sent is kept for fourteen days so we can check whether a confirmation actually reached you.
Your rights
Under the Mauritian Data Protection Act 2017 you can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, and ask us to delete it. You can also object to how we are using it.
Write to spicehousemauritius@gmail.com and we will respond. There is no charge, and it will be one of the family who reads it.
Keeping it safe
This website runs over a secure encrypted connection. Access to bookings and sales records is limited to the family members who need it. We hold only what we genuinely need, which is the simplest protection of all.
Children
We welcome children at the house, and children’s tickets are part of what we sell. But bookings are made by adults, and we do not knowingly collect information directly from children through this website.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information we will update this page and change the date below. If the change is significant we will say so clearly rather than quietly editing it.
Ask us anything
If anything here is unclear, or you want to know what we hold about you, write to spicehousemauritius@gmail.com or call +230 5750 2929. Last updated 16 September 2026.
